Paper Marbling at Common Room Studio

  • Common Room Studio 428 B Hume Avenue Alexandria, Virginia (map)

Tickets

Make marbled papers and explore the meditative process of suminagashi, a centuries-old style of Japanese paper marbling.

In this class you'll learn:

  • how to create unique, colorful nature-inspired designs using marbling techniques

  • how this process can teach us to live mindfully, to slow down, connect to ourselves and nature, and give up a sense of rigidity or control

  • the history and context of this process, including how it has been used in historical and contemporary settings

You'll connect with others, explore conversations on creativity, and walk away with a collection of unique marbled papers that you marble and design yourself. This process is perfect for incorporating into holiday gifts and creative projects - we'll talk about how you can use your papers once you take them home, too!

In this class, all materials are provided, as are light snacks and refreshments. This class is suited for learners of all ages - beginners, intermediate, and advanced - and is especially fitting for anyone who seeks to enliven a connection to creative practices.

About the venue: Common Room Studio "is a light-filled collaborative creative space designed for photo shoots, workshops, meetings, off-site work days, retail pop-ups, and events" located in Alexandria, Virginia.
