Learn the creative and meditative process of Japanese water-based marbling, or suminagashi. Characterized by delicate tendrils of colorful inks and swirling patterns, pigment sit on top of the water's surface and is moved by breath, brush, or tool. Paper is then set on the surface of the water, capturing the floating lines and shapes.
We’ll discuss the history and creative benefits of the process, and explore a variety of techniques as we create a collection of marbled paper designs for use in your own creative endeavors.
