Paper Marbling and Bookbinding

  • PaperBase 218 East Preston Street Baltimore, MD, 21202 United States (map)

Description

In this two-part workshop participants will explore two processes: paper marbling and bookbinding. Spend the morning learning suminagashi techniques and creating hand marbled papers. Take a lunch break and eat in the nearby park or grab a bite at some of the local restaurants or cafes to allow the paper to dry. In the second part of the day, learn about Japanese stab binding techniques utilizing hand marbled paper from the morning. Participants leave with hand marbled papers, a set of handbound books, and basic bookbinding tools (awl, bone folder, and binding needle) to continue the processes at home. Ticket price includes instruction, cost of materials, and tools.
